Message from the Pastor;

The very act of movement from Kenya to the US is a paradigm shift for any person and/or family that has been inculturated in the former environment. Significantly lacking in the new found environment is the rich African cultural heritage that upholds the place of community over and above the individualized kind of lifestyle characterized in the West; and the disintegration of the extended family unit.

That sense of community cohesion rhymes quite well with the biblical teachings of being one’s brother’s keeper, loving one’s neighbor; and exemplifies Jesus’ cardinal teaching of LOVE as being the summation of the commandments.

It is with this understanding that the Kenyan Community Presbyterian Church (Ushindi) endeavors to provide a soft landing and smooth transition for all these people. Ushindi welcomes all into a communal kind of lifestyle in worship and mission, creating an extended family set up for members in our support systems, and above all living within the dictates of the Great Commission.

This is borne of the consciousness of the ever present Light that “shines in the darkness and darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5). We endeavor to be part of the One, Holy, Catholic (universal) and Apostolic church; worshipping God Almighty, All-wise, and All-loving, in the Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and to fellowship with one another.

Ushindi expresses the faith of the Reformed tradition, central to which is the affirmation of the majesty, holiness, and providence of God, who creates, sustains, rules, and redeems the world in the freedom of sovereign righteousness and love. We believe that the Bible is the infallible, unchangeable Word of God, and the final authority on all matters of worship, doctrine, faith, and church government.

Conscious of the gifts of God to all people, Ushindi endeavors to practice and uphold the principle of the priesthood of all believers through the involvement of all believers in the preaching and reading of the Word, prayer, leadership, praises worship, and evangelism. The recent division of the church into districts (home-based fellowships) is an effort to midwife these gifts and create forums for practice within a conducive, homely environment for the growth of the church. This will also ensure that the said gifts will be harnessed towards one common goal. Key among the expression and praxis of these gifts is the aspect of contextualization of worship and ministry in the hitherto unfamiliar territory.

On behalf of the Ushindi family, I wish to welcome you all to our Church and the Kenyan community of faith. We are conveniently located off the Lowell Connector in the same building where the Registry of Motor Vehicles was located and it is my hope that browsing through our website will give you a more clear and detailed introduction of who we are, what we do, and what we pursue to become.

Amani ya Bwana.
